I was living on a small Scottish Island at the time. The prospect of a war so many did not want, made me want to
join those trying to avert it. First, I wrote an article published in The New Statesman, then I wrote a Statement to be delivered to 10 Downing Street on February 15th, signed by many artists and writers. It seemed extraordinary to me, after the huge marches and demonstrations, that the voices of the
people - in a democracy - seemed to be ignored.
